Obedience and Tricks

Obedience and Trick training can be used as a tool to make adjustments and improvements in a dogs behavior by providing the opportunity to practice things like self control and  building confidence. It is also an excellent opportunity to  improve the bond between human and dog by teaching leadership and respect. 

The human world can be a busy and confusing place to our dogs, with almost infinite distractions available and at the ready. This can cause our dogs to engage in poor behavior such as pulling, barking, obsession and reactivity. Walking your dog should be the most relaxing part of your busy day. If its not, we can help! By introducing structured walking,  we will break the cycle that drags you into your dog's instability and show you how to apply gentle correction to resolve behavior issues. We will teach your dog to read and  follow your cues, affirming your leadership role and creating a happier and healthier experience for you and your dog.

Off leash walking can be a daunting experience for even experienced dog owners. It is, however, the best way to socialize your dog so that they can develop the skills to safely navigate dog-to-dog interactions. We teach owners and dogs to read the body language of other dogs that they encounter, providing tools and strategies to make these interactions as safe and positive as possible. 

Often our dog's behavior is a direct result of the leadership that we are providing or not providing.  Additionally, destructive or reactive behaviors can develop in dogs that are being ineffectively exercised, often due to their poor behavior. This negative cycle can go downhill quickly, resulting in a situation that feels out of your control.  After our assessment, we provide clear strategies that can curb unwanted behaviors when combined with improved knowledge, understanding and consistency. 

At The Profound Hound, we believe that we often spend a great deal of time teaching dogs to be respectful to our kids, but generally spend far less time teaching young humans to be respectful and receptive to our dogs. This can often result in a strained bond between our kids and our animals, or misunderstanding of the family hierarchy. Our junior trainer program is designed to clarify these issues while simultaneously providing your kids with the skills to train your pet, asserting themselves in a leadership role to your dog and build a better bond.
